The new edition of Civilization Past and Present is a major revision of a classic text (the last edition had Wallbank as the lead author). Civilization Past and Present has a strong European core with excellent global coverage and is well known in the marketplace as a highly readable, accessible survey text. This is important since students often complain that they are overwhelmed with too much content in this course.
The main thrust of the revision is to make the book more inclusive of areas beyond Europe. With two new authors, an Annotated Instructors Edition, a new, unique feature that focuses on primary maps, a beautiful new four-color design, and a premiere supplements package on the market, this edition of Civilization Past and Present offers students and professors an accessible and exciting survey of World Civilization.
For the first time, we will be adding an Annotated Instructors Edition, which will provide numerous useful teaching suggestions and ideas. The Annotated Instructors Edition is unique in this market and will prove invaluable to professors who invariably end up teaching parts of the course which are out of their area of expertise since the course is so broad.
This edition is available electronically on CD-ROM that includes the entire text, study guide, videos, web links, maps, charts, and photos. Free when bundled, this exciting new multimedia learning tool is easy to navigate and makes reading the textbook fun. Students will love how simple it is to take notes online, search for a topic, create a binder of documents, take practice tests, and watch historical videos.
- NEW - <F75BS>NEW! Annotated Instructor's Edition will offer teaching suggestions, discussion ideas, areas for suggested comparisons, anecdotes, and suggested readings.
- NEW - <F75BS>NEW! Brummett Interactive Edition CD-ROM includes the entire text, study guide, videos, web links, maps, charts, and photos. - NEW - <F75BS>NEW! Two new scholars have been added to the author team to provide expertise in coverage of non-Western areas. Palmira Brummett is an Islamic scholar from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; and Robert Edgar is an African scholar who teaches at Howard University. These new scholars will not only be increasing the coverage of non-European civilizations, they will also be re-crafting chapters and sections within chapters so that non-Western civilizations are examined on their own terms - not through European eyes. Pg.___
- NEW - <F75BS>NEW! Brummet's new edition has a four-color format with an entirely new design, map program and heavily revised illustration program. Pg.___
- NEW - <F75BS>NEW! Discovery Through Maps boxes in each chapter give students a unique perspective on understanding various cultures by exploring primary maps created during the period under discussion. Students will gain a better understanding of how societies viewed themselves and those with whom they interacted by viewing maps like the oldest map in the world from Nippur, the 16th century Madaba mosaic map of Jerusalem, and an American view of the world in 1820. Pg.___
- NEW - <F75BS>NEW! Brief Chronology boxes have been added throughout the text to aid students in understanding the sequence of events. Pg.___
- NEW - <F75BS>NEW! Part structure and introductory narrative part openers have been added and will show each chapter in a broader, historical context. Pg.___
