James Fagin has worked with numerous local, state, and federal criminal justice agencies.

He began his career in law enforcement as a police academy student and became a commissioned police officer. He went on to serve as a training officer, instructor, and curriculum developer in police academies and corrections academies in Illinois, Kansas and Hawaii. His direct real-life experience in law enforcement gives Criminal Justice a special relevance, authenticity, and passion.

Expertise
An expert in areas of criminal justice of greatest contemporary concern…
James Fagin is an expert and consultant on transnational terrorism, computer crime, and computer technologies in criminal justice. His other special areas of expertise include effective community policing, police recruitment, and police performance, including stress management. He has published and conducted seminars internationally in these areas. In its currency, examples, comparative insights, and practical applications, Criminal Justice reflects these areas of expertise.

Educator
A recognized educator in the administration of justice…
James Fagin has taught criminal justice courses for nearly three decades. He was recognized as "Outstanding Educator" by the American Society of Public Administration in 1996. His interest in higher education in criminal justice began when he served as a curriculum developer for the U.S.

Department of Justice Law Enforcement Assistance Administration. Today he is the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and remains an active member of the John Howard Society and the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. Fagin’s commitment to teaching is reflected in his new introductory textbook, which features an applied and practical, student-centered framework.
