High self-report rates of cheating in high school indicate such behavior does not develop overnight; students do not just come to college and then decide to become academically dishonest. In fact, the likelihood a student will cheat in college increases dramatically if that student has cheated on several occasions in high school (Davis & Ludvigson, 1995). Clearly, academic dishonesty is a behavior that is nurtured in high school and persists throughout the collegiate years. In this regard, it is interesting to speculate about the occurrence of academic dishonesty before high school. What is the prevalence of cheating in middle school or grade school?
