Test Yourself on the Forms of Mood Disorder

On the next pages you will read about six individuals who are having problems coping with life. Two of these individuals would be diagnosed as "normal"; that is, their mood swings are within the normal range and would be considered appropriate reactions to their life events.

The other four would be diagnosed as having clinical mood disorders. One of the individuals shows the relatively mild symptoms of dysthymia, one shows the relatively mild symptoms of cyclothymia, one exhibits a clear bipolar disorder, and one shows the symptoms of major depression.

Your task will be to identify the proper classification for each individual.
